Powerful Prayer for the Sick

Prayer for the Sick: Prayer for the sick is a sincere prayer to God for a sick family or friend. These prayers are recited with faith.

Sickness is a part of life that can be difficult to deal with. Sickness, of course, has a physical impact, but it can also have spiritual and emotional consequences. The Bible reveals that God consoles us when we are distressed (see 2 Corinthians 1:4). Certainly, God loves us and is with us in every difficult situation, including physical illness.

When someone is unwell, it is critical that their Christian brothers and sisters pray for them. We don’t know how God will respond to those prayers, but we know He hears them and will respond in His perfect way and will. Here are seven prayers to say for persons who are sick.

The Bible instructs us to pray for the sick. “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord” (James 5:14)

No matter what illness we are suffering from, prayer can bring us relief and peace. We have a God who loves us and wants us to come to Him in our time of need. When illness strikes, it is critical that we pray for one another and seek God for his assistance and healing.

According to the Bible, we are cured by Jesus’ stripes (see Isaiah 53:5). When we pray to God, we express our faith in Him and throw our worries on Him. It is good to have faith in him and know that when it comes to sickness and pain, he will hear every prayer.

Christians Should Pray for the Sick

We’ve all known someone who was sick yet wasn’t cured. Perhaps you’re thinking of a well-known person who was prayed for by tens of thousands of people during a time of serious sickness, but the Lord saw fit to take them home. Perhaps you’re commemorating a beloved member of your church who succumbed to cancer despite all the faith-filled prayers offered in their honor.

These incidents can make us wonder if God is no longer in the business of healing. But, in order to grasp God’s love toward the sick, we need to go to Scripture rather than our own limited experience.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus healed everyone who came to Him with an injury, disability, or disease. There will be no exceptions. He healed everyone who approached him.

“For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me,” Jesus says (John 6:38). So, by curing the sick, Jesus demonstrated God’s heart toward them: He wants them to be whole and well.

But there’s another reason to assume that healing is God’s will. The whole of redemptive history points in that direction. God has been working on this earth to bring about a new age, a new creation in which there is no more death since Adam and Eve fell in the garden.

Revelation 21:“‘There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away,” says the Bible (v. 4; see also Isaiah 25:8). This is where we’re headed: world free of sickness and disease, similar to the Garden of Eden. God instructs us to pray for healing because that is what He desires.

Bible Verses for the Sick

Psalm 103:2-4 – “Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,”

Psalm 41:2-3 – “The LORD protects and preserves them— they are counted among the blessed in the land— he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.”

James 6:16 – “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
